“I don’t have a philosophy. I have a camera. I look into the camera and take pictures. My Photographs are the tiniest part of what I see that could be photographed. They are fragments of endless possibilities.”  Saul Leiter

My name is Farahnaz Alaei, and I’m so glad that you’re here! I am an artist with a passion for photography and painting based in Canada, specializing in still life/product, food, beauty, portraits, fine arts, and abstract art.

I have been fond of taking photos ever since I could hold a camera. I've been attracted to photography due to the different ways I can manipulate light, colors, and shapes in my pictures to create art. Playing with different lights, angles, and the manipulation of color in my photos, like in a painting, brings me joy. Light is the essential ingredient a photographer or artist can control, and it’s what we use to define the objects and stories our art and pictures convey.

I started my photography journey with analogue and medium format cameras at an early age, which gave me a keen eye for detail in the environment and subjects I photograph, a skill I continue to rely on even now.

I try to express myself through my photography. As a photographer, I want my photos to speak for themselves. For me, photography is a way of feeling, loving, seeing, and touching. It captures moments in the fast-moving fabric of time and safeguards them. It remembers things long after you have forgotten everything.

I have worked as a photographer in Iran, Dubai, and Canada for more than 25 years. Over the years, I have taken numerous photography courses to sharpen my skills in both Iran and Canada. I got my degree in Iran and, after moving to Canada, I attended Dawson College and earned my degree in AEC-Commercial Photography.

I always edit my photos, and when it comes to editing, every single detail matters to me. I use Capture One for shooting and then edit in Capture One, Photoshop, and Lightroom.

I take inspiration from a variety of sources, using everything available to create abstract, conceptual, and playful images. When traveling, I do landscape photography, capturing moments from my travels. When I don’t find things to photograph, I paint and draw instead.
